Concert Band

The concert band is open to anyone age 18 years or older who plays a concert band instrument (woodwind, brass, and percussion). Auditions are not required. The concert band plays a variety of genres, including classical, folk, pop, and traditional music.

Season and Performances

Our season runs from September through June. In a typical season, there are three concerts: one in late fall, one in early spring, and one in June. Members are also invited to march in the annual Twin Cities Pride Parade. Occasionally we are asked to take part in other parades or provide a pep band for various events.

Rehearsals take place on Monday evenings from 7-9pm at South High School, 3131 19th Ave S, Minneapolis.

Meet the Conductor

Bethany Higgins

Bethany was a member of the Minnesota Freedom Band for three years before taking the baton and becoming our conductor. She earned her degree in Music Education from Minnesota State University, Mankato, and teaches middle school band at several schools around the Twin Cities Metro. She enjoys all aspects of music, including performing, writing band and choral pieces, listening to and promoting local musicians, and attending concerts and theatre productions. She feels incredibly honored to be a part of such an amazing group if individuals, and feels lucky to lead such great and talented musicians!
